The easiest (and tastiest) lasagne you’ll ever make

With busy lives around us, we don’t always think we have the time and energy to spend time in the kitchen. Yet a shared meal, packed with nutrition, can be a key part of creating family time and fostering relationships. What better way to get the family together on a cold winter’s night then over a delectable lasagne? This easy recipe couldn’t be simpler and will soon become a staple in your kitchen.

What do I need to make the tastiest lasagne?

The ingredient list looks a little long, but don’t panic! It’s mostly in the herbs and spices you’ll need to make it extra flavoursome. You’ll need to get together:

  • 1 pkt lasagne noodles
  • 250g ground pork
  • 250g lean ground beef
  • 2 cans of Miami’s tomato and onion mix
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/8 tsp white sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 250g smooth cottage cheese
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (or to taste)
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 250g shredded mozzarella cheese

Now how do I make my perfect lasagne?

With all the ingredients at hand, it’s time to get busy making magic in the kitchen. Pop the oven to 190 degrees C. Lightly salt some water and bring it to the boil. Allow the noodles to cook to al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set them aside.

Brown the meat in a deep skillet over a medium-high heat. Now add the two cans of Miami tomato and onion mix, herbs, sugar and salt. Allow to simmer for 30 minutes to mix flavours, stirring regularly.

Place 2 layers of noodles at the bottom of a greased oven pan. Layer half of the cottage cheese, half of the mozzarella, and ½ the sauce you just made before repeating with the rest. Cover with some tin foil and allow to bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Remove the foil (carefully) and allow the top to crisp up for another 5-10 minutes.

This dish works best when allowed to stand for 10 minutes before serving. Then it’s a simple matter of slicing and enjoying!
