Easy to make and super delicious, all you need is love (and a delicious tin of Miami Canner’s Tomatoes with Basil, Garlic and Origanum)
What dish could be more iconic when it comes to love than Lady and the Tramp’s shared spaghetti? Win your loved one’s heart with a sweet (and delicious) throwback to this classic cartoon, and delight your inner child as well. What’s even better is that the recipe can be easily adjusted for meat lovers and vegetarians alike. You can even try a veggie meatball if you prefer!
What you’ll need for this Valentine’s dish:
- 1 tin of Miami’s Tomatoes with Basil, Garlic and Origanum
- 1/8 cup of olive oil
- 250g of asparagus, trimmed and cut to 3cm pieces (or a drained tin)
- 1 clove of garlic
- 250-500g spaghetti
- 250-500g beef mince, or meatballs if you choose (optional)
- ⅛ cup of Parmesan or Pecorino cheese, grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
How to make this simple, easy and delicious Valentine’s meal
Heat your oil in a sauté pan. Make sure the pan is large enough to later hold the pasta, too. Stir in the meat (if you’re using it), garlic and asparagus (if fresh), and cook until semi-soft and brown. Now add your tomatoes (and the asparagus if you were using tinned), and cook for a further 5 minutes. The asparagus should be fully soft and the meat perfectly cooked.
Keep the mix warm to allow the flavours to meld and cook the pasta to taste. We want it to be al dente, firm but cooked through. Reserve about 30ml of the pasta water and drain the rest. Add the water and drained spaghetti to the pan with the sauce. Blend the ingredients over a low heat. Toss in the cheese and serve immediately.
No matter if you try the vegetarian or the meat-lover’s version of this dish, you’re sure to woo your sweetheart with this hearty, delicious dish. It’s a Miami Canners favourite!
